To create a connection, you need a network card that can support MS Virtual Wi-Fi technology, i.e. First you need to open the “Network and Sharing Center” settings menu with a single right-click and select the second item. Go to the appropriate field and look for the section called “Setting up a new connection.” Click on the link to go to the network setup wizard. We are interested in the element that is highlighted in the screenshot above. Select the appropriate item and click the “Next” button. You will see an information window, the contents of which you can read if you wish. Then click on “Next” again and move on to the next step.

Now you need to enter it in the appropriate fields. The Network Name (SSID) field is the name of your connection.

It is preferable to leave the security type as WPA2-Personal, since it is the most reliable against external penetrations. Security key is a pre-created complex password for entering a personal access point. Its length should be about 8-10 characters, but no less. It is desirable that it consists of numbers and letters.

The corresponding window will open. You may come across 2 fields: home; general.

How to distribute WiFi from a laptop?!

Apart from them there will be nothing. Opposite each of the profiles there is a button that opens the settings.

Click on it next to the “general” item. Next, put a checkmark in the same place where they are located in the screenshot. The only caveat: item 3 of settings is needed only if you want someone to change and save their information in a shared network folder. If you want to set the access type to “Read only”, disable the option. Now you know how to distribute the Internet from a laptop using the basic functionality of the operating system. Method 2: distribute wi-fi using the command line. If you intend to do the same set of actions, only using the command line, do the following.

First, create a document in TXT format. A regular notepad is suitable for these purposes. We copy this into it: netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=”Virtual_network_name” key=”password_of_8_characters” keyUsage=persistent You get something like: “Network name” and “password” are written individually. The main thing is that you yourself do not forget it. Save the document and change its extension to BAT. The name can also be changed so as not to lose the document.

Let it be, for example, Wi-Fi. Run the file under administrator rights by right-clicking and selecting the desired context menu item. As soon as you double-click the file, a new network connection will be activated. All that remains is to give him access to the global web. Right-click on the connection through which we are currently accessing the global network and look for “properties”. We need the "access" tab.

All that remains is to launch the resulting Wi-Fi network of your own design. To do this we need to open the command line. Click the “Start” button and enter CMD in the search field. It will find one item that we need.

We click on it - this is it. The launch is carried out by entering the command: netsh wlan start hostednetwork (without a dot at the end). If you want to stop the flow of traffic, then write the same line, but instead of “Start” write “Stop”. To view the current state of the network, enter the same long-suffering line, but change “Start” to “Show”. You must have administrator rights for this PC. Otherwise, all your work will go down the drain. As you can see, distributing the Internet from a Windows 7 laptop is not at all that difficult.

What you need to connect Wi-Fi at home

Today, most modern apartments and houses are equipped with wireless Wi-Fi, which allows all computers and mobile gadgets to freely access the Internet. If you don’t have Wi-Fi at home yet, then most likely you opened this article to remedy the situation.
So, what do you need to connect to Wi-Fi at home? Below we will look at the main steps, where, in fact, you need to start to set up wireless Internet at home.

What is needed to connect Wi-Fi at home?

Step 1: concluding an agreement with the provider

You can skip this step if you already have the Internet connected to your home, but it only works via wire.

Today, Russian providers offer users three types of Internet connections: ADSL, FTTB and xPON.

You can check whether your home is connected to the services of a particular provider on the official website, where, as a rule, there is a page for checking the connection by house number. The situation is such that even in large Russian cities on sparsely populated streets in houses there is no provider equipment, which means the only option is to use ADSL, which is offered by the telephone operator (aka provider).

As a rule, the provider’s website offers you to choose one of the desired tariffs, each of which differs in available Internet speed and additional functions. So, as a rule, the cheapest tariff will provide limited Internet connection speed during the day and unlimited speed at night.
An expensive tariff will provide Internet without restrictions, but will also allow you to connect to IP television with a certain number of free HD channels.

The choice of tariff is made solely on the basis of your financial capabilities and preferences.

But we draw your attention to the fact that if you are not going to purchase a Wi-Fi router separately, make sure that it is provided free of charge by the provider at the chosen tariff.

Having chosen a tariff, you will usually be asked to either call the provider or fill out a form to call a specialist.

Next, at the agreed time, a specialist comes to you, who enters into a service agreement with you, provides equipment, and immediately connects it (the task is easier if the provider provides its own router).

Step 2: purchasing a Wi-Fi router

If you have a wired Internet connection or if you were not provided with this equipment when concluding an agreement with your provider, you must purchase it separately.

If you purchase a router separately, then this task must be approached with all responsibility, taking into account many nuances when choosing. How to choose the right Wi-Fi router for your home has already been discussed on our website.

Step3: connecting the router to the computer

So, you have everything to set up the Internet - all that remains is to configure it.

Who can tell me how to make WiFi without a router?

Until the router is configured, Wi-Fi will not work on it. You first need to connect the router to your computer.

Step 4: Setting up the router

Depending on the selected router manufacturer and your provider, the router settings may vary. But you need to start by visiting the router’s web interface.

Once you log into the router interface, you need to configure your wireless network. In this case, most routers are equipped with a function for quickly setting up a wireless network, from which you only need to specify the login and password for the network (it is specified in the agreement with the provider, but this data is not always provided), as well as specify the name of the wireless network and the security key.

If you find it difficult to configure your router yourself, you have two ways to solve the problem: either search the Internet for the setup process specifically for your router model, or call your provider, who, as a rule, can help you set up a wireless network.

And a small summary

The article is very approximate; it is, rather, a further plan of action. As you can see, the process of connecting Wi-Fi at home is not difficult, but if you have any difficulties, leave your comments and we can help answer your questions.

How to create a WiFi access point using Windows 7. Instructions, step by step with illustrations. Although people are mostly interested in the question of how to make a laptop a wifi access point, it doesn’t really matter whether it’s a laptop or a regular desktop computer. Creating a wifi hotspot is the same in both cases.

How to create a WiFi hotspot on Windows 7

We need to create a software wifi router based on Windows 7 that will receive the Internet in some way and be able to distribute this Internet via wifi.

What do we need?

  • Windows 7 Basic or higher. Windows 7 Starter (initial) will not work. More precisely, on Windows 7 Starter you will have to solve the routing issue using a third-party program ( for Windows 7 Starterseparate note at the end of the article).
  • Old wifi adapter. For example, the TP-Link TL-WN722NC USB wifi adapter was used for this article.
  • Internet connection. For this article, a GSM connection was used through the MTS operator (MTS USB modem). But it can be any connection - PPPoE, VPN, Dail-Up, Ethernet, WiFi.

The first step is to install the wifi adapter, if it is not already installed, and make sure that it is turned on and working.

After this, you need to check whether the “WLAN AutoConfiguration Service” service is running. Usually its launch mode is “Manual”, which means it can be stopped. If you plan to use the created access point constantly, then it is better to switch this service to the “Automatic” startup mode.

You also need to check that the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service also has an Automatic startup mode.

You also need to check that the “Routing and Remote Access” service also has the “Automatic” startup mode.

And for this service to work. There may be situations when the startup type of this service is set to auto, but when Windows 7 starts, it stops and, accordingly, others in this case will not receive the Internet.

Read more about this in another article - “Windows 7 Routing and Remote Access service stops.”

These checks are done through "Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services".

After this, you need to open the Windows console (cmd.exe) with administrator rights. This can be done through the menu "Start - Programs - Accessories - Command Prompt", then right mouse button and "Run as administrator".

In the console, type and execute the command:

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid="winap" key="123456789" keyusage=persistent.

Instead of winap And 123456789 enter your access point name and password:

Note. Important! The password must be at least 8 characters long, this is a requirement for the WPA2 security type that is used in Windows when creating an access point. It is better not to use the Cyrillic alphabet in your password. Letter case matters - A And A These are different symbols!

Next, check that the connection for the access point has been created. Open "Start - Run - ncpa.cpl" and after opening the "Network Connections" window, in this window find the wireless connection for which the physical adapter is not specified:

Right-click, then "Properties" and look there - it should be "MicroSoft Virtual Miniport Adapter":

At the same time, you can remove unnecessary connections and protocols.

Immediately rename this connection in ncpa.cpl - for example, to “winAP”:

Next, here, in ncpa.cpl, you need to share (enable Windows ICS) the Internet connection. Select this connection, right button - “Properties”, “Access” tab. Enable ICS and specify the connection to which the Internet will be distributed - to the wifi connection of the access point ("winAP"):

Now you need to connect to the Internet. Or reconnect if the connection was established previously.

After that, type and execute the command in the console:

netsh wlan start hostednetwork.

That's it, the access point should already be working. Now you can connect the client to this access point (this illustration is from the client’s computer):

How to connect a wifi client to:

Client connected:

On the computer where the access point is running, you can check its status. To do this, enter the command in the console:

netsh wlan show hostednetwork

It can be seen that one client is connected.

Stopping an access point with a command netsh wlan stop hostednetwork

Complete destruction of the access point by command netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow

If you want the access point to turn on automatically when Windows boots, then the start command needs to be added to autorun. It's about the team netsh wlan start hostednetwork. The command can be written into a cmd script; you must specify “Run as Administrator” in the properties of this script. Then include the script in autorun.

It is necessary that the connection to the Internet is also established when Windows starts.

Otherwise, you will have an access point, but there will be no Internet through it.

Of course this is a very simple access point. But everything is at hand. No third party programs needed. Just Windows 7. And everything can be configured in a couple of minutes. Yes, there are programs like Connectify and Virtual Router. However, you need to understand that they only do the work that is done by two commands in the Windows console. These are just add-ons to the functionality of Windows 7. It’s easier to write two commands in the console than to download and install some gadgets.

Some may say that this option does not have many of the capabilities that an access point should have. Well yes, that's true. Only this is an option when you need to make a wifi router very quickly and without problems. And Windows 7 provides just such an opportunity - with a minimum of body movements, what is called “on the knee,” to create an access point.

But if your needs are broader and deeper, if you need an access point for every day, or in complex configurations, then you don’t need to use Windows, but buy a decent, or even good, WiFi router. A decent WiFi router now costs less than a thousand rubles. And in such a situation, sculpting a design based on a computer and Windows is somehow absurd.

It’s another matter if you need an access point once a month, for a day or for a couple of days. Or on a business trip.

How to make Wi-Fi at home without a router?

Or on vacation. This is where Windows helps us out. You can quickly distribute the Internet via WiFi from a laptop to a tablet, smartphone or other laptops.

But if there is a need to make a permanent access point on a computer, then it is better to do it under Linux. This is how this is actually implemented in WiFi routers. For example, like in this article - Access Point on Ubuntu.

Hotspot on Windows 7 does not work

There is no need to swear at Microsoft, at Windows - in general, look for the guilty on the side. The problem in such cases Always on your own computer (or laptop). It could be:

  • Drivers for the WiFi adapter on which you are creating an access point.
  • The WiFi adapter itself.
  • You did something wrong.
  • Any "left" services or drivers/programs that use the WiFi adapter or USB port (if your adapter is connected via USB).
  • You have Windows 7 Starter.
  • One of the necessary services has stopped, for example, see the article "Windows 7 Routing and Remote Access service stops."

For example, during Windows startup, the WiFi adapter driver can put the adapter into standby mode. And when Windows starts the service hostednetwork the adapter does not wake up.

With a normal WiFi adapter and if you haven’t messed up your Windows with crooked programs and drivers, everything will work fine.

In general, always look for the source of the problem on your computer.

WiFi network protection

Access point on Windows 7 Starter (initial)

Microsoft did something weird with it. ICS is blocked on it, but you can create an access point as such. Paradox. Why do you need a hostednetwork mechanism if there is no routing? Be that as it may, you can make a wifi access point on Windows 7 Starter. You just need to find a program with which to perform routing between the Internet and winAP interfaces. There are many options here, for example you can use a proxy server, like 3proxy.

Ivan Sukhov, 2013, 2014

The technology of wireless Internet networks has become quite integrated into the life of modern people. We constantly hear words such as Wi-Fi, router, 3G, and others, one way or another related to Internet technologies. The Internet is used almost everywhere: in shops, in transport, in cafes and restaurants, in public places equipped with wireless access points, but with a little effort, you can organize home wifi internet so that any existing device can be connected to the Internet anywhere in the apartment. This is not at all difficult to do, and with some time skills it will only take a few minutes.

Features of organizing a wireless network

Usually, when connecting to a WiFi access point, it is assumed that you will be connected to the global network and access the Internet. This is not entirely true. A wireless connection is the same connection of computers or other devices into a local area network as using cables. The only difference is the technology. Naturally, combining home resources with the resources of an Internet provider and accessing the Internet will be an additional advantage, but this is far from the only area of application for home WiFi. As an example, when used home Wi-Fi only for internal needs, this is the organization of a media server on which movies, music or photos are stored, and to which all users of the home network can connect for viewing.

In order to make a wireless network for the home, inexpensive access points or Wi-Fi routers are usually used. When organizing a wireless network, there are several factors to consider:

  • data transfer speed within the network;
  • protection against unauthorized access;
  • range of the access point, i.e. transmitter power;
  • location of the access point in the apartment.

Considering these factors, you can organize a wireless network anywhere with maximum efficiency. A very important point is the correct location of the transmitter in the room. If a wired network is organized, then each device or computer is connected via wires, and the connection speed is affected only by their quality and length. Wireless networks are a little more complicated. Radio signals are transmitted through the air and may cause interference as they travel. This interference depends on the material and thickness of the walls, on the finishing material, on the power of the transmitter; interference can also arise from objects located in the apartment.

The optimal location for the router is approximately in the middle of the apartment and as high as possible towards the ceiling. Usually this is a place in the corridor, at a point equidistant from the rest of the rooms. This placement will ensure the most uniform distribution of the signal over the entire area. Of course, you can place the router on a table or system unit in one of the rooms, but then you should not expect that the signal will be the same strength throughout the apartment.

The speed of information transfer on the network depends on the selected WiFi standard - 802.11b/g/n. Modern models of routers and mobile devices support all communication standards.

How to make your computer distribute Wi-Fi instead of a router: Complete instructions

In the standard with index n, the speed will reach 150 Mbit/s under ideal conditions. But it is also worth taking into account the fact that if a client that does not support the n standard and works, for example, on 802.11g connects to the router, then automatically all devices on the network will switch to operating in this mode, i.e. will operate at speeds up to 54 Mbit/s.

Connecting and setting up a router

Typically, almost all Internet providers provide their customers with wired Internet access. This means that a twisted pair cable is laid from the provider’s managed switch to the client’s apartment. In this case, the function of the provider is only to provide access to the Internet or to the resources of its network. Not many providers help their clients with services for setting up routers or organizing a home network, or such services are provided on a paid basis. Actually set it up home wifi internet easier than it seems. To do this, you need to adhere to the following algorithm, which is suitable in most cases:

  • Internet access is configured according to the settings issued by the provider;
  • Internet television (IPTV) is configured if such a service is provided by the provider;
  • wired connections are configured (by and large, only internal IP addresses are changed if desired);
  • the wireless connection is configured by specifying the access point identifier and security parameters;
  • changing the password to enter the router configuration page;
  • access policies are configured, such as port forwarding, access to resources and various servers.

The settings of each router are purely individual, but the operating algorithm described above is suitable for each of them.

If the router is not new, but has already been used for connection, then before setting it up you need to reset the installed configurations to the factory ones. On each router, this is done by pressing and holding the “Reset” button for 10-15 seconds. This button is located on the back panel, where the cable connectors are located. On some models, the reset button may be located on the bottom.

To understand whether the configuration has been reset, just pay attention to the power indicator on the front panel. It should blink frequently.

If you are not sure what address you need to enter in the browser in order to get to the settings page, just turn the router over and “peep” this information. A plate or sticker must be attached to the bottom, on which the router address, user name and access password are written. There is also information about the device address, which may be required if the provider filters clients by MAC. Detailed router settings with specific configuration examples can be found on the Internet or on this website.

The more tablets and smartphones appear, the more acute the question arises related to their connection to the World Wide Web using a computer or laptop. If you have a router at home, then there are no special problems. All devices that are at home are connected to it and several family members can be on the Internet at the same time. What to do when you don’t have a home router, but there is an urgent need to connect your smartphone or tablet to the Internet? This problem can be solved quite simply. It is enough to force your laptop, like a router, to distribute Wi-Fi. In Windows 7 and Windows 8, the developers initially included the necessary functionality for this in the operating system.

For laptop or PC there is 2 ways way out of this situation:

  1. You can use already built-in Windows tools.
  2. Using third-party programs that create a virtual router on a PC or laptop.

Wi-Fi distribution using built-in Windows tools

For this we need a wireless adapter. If it is not there, then you can use a card that supports MS Virtual Wi-Fi technology. Today, all modern adapters support this technology.

Instructions for a laptop for distributing Wi-Fi

If you have done everything correctly and consistently, then you can connect your smartphone or tablet. But that is not all. Next we will additionally need to enable and configure sharing. Here you need to take the following steps:

  • Go to the properties of our network connection and click on the button "Enable Internet Connection Sharing".
  • After that, click on the “Close” button.

Sharing enabled. All that remains is to make the necessary settings. To make them:

If you still have questions about how to set up Wi-Fi distribution from a laptop using built-in Windows tools, watch the video below.

Distributing Wi-Fi from a laptop using the command line and “netsh”

And so, what needs to be done.

  • At your discretion, in any text editor, it is best to use Notepad, create a new text file. In this file you need to write the line:

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=”My_virtual_WiFi” key=”12345678″ keyUsage=persistent, where after the word “ssid” We write the identifier of our wireless network, and after the word “key” we write our password.

  • We save the file with the line written in it.
  • Next, change the extension of the above file. To do this, you need to right-click on this file. Then select rename. We make an extension for the file instead .txt - .bat.
  • Then we need to run the created and renamed file. Do not forget that you must run it with administrator rights. It's easy to do. Right-click on our file. A small window opens in which we select the “Run as administrator” option.
  • By running the file, we will begin installing the “Virtual Wi-Fi Adapter” driver, and in the network connections menu, if the above steps are performed correctly, a new “Wireless Network Connection” should appear.

At the next stage, we need to connect the network we are creating to the Internet. To do this you need:

  • Go to the “Network and Sharing Center” and select the connection through which you are going to connect to the Internet. Here we select “Properties”.
  • Find the access tab "netsh-wlan-start-hostednetwork-2" and check the box “Allow other network users to use this computer’s Internet connection.”
  • Let's move on. In the “Home Network Connection” application, we find the new network connection we created and click on it, and then on the “OK” button.
  • Your new Wi-Fi connection is ready to go. All that remains is to launch it.
  • We launch using the command "netsh wlan start hostednetwork" . To stop it running use the command "netsh wlan stop hostednetwork" . And in order to see the current state, use the command "netsh wlan show hostednetwork" .

If you still have questions about how to set up Wi-Fi distribution from a laptop using the command line, watch the video below.

Setting up Wi-Fi distribution using “Connectify”

Now let’s look, using the “Connectify” program as an example, to see how to install it and configure it for Wi-Fi distribution. This option for a laptop can be used as an alternative, in particular, if for some reason you were unable to start distribution using MS Virtual WiFi.

  1. At the initial stage, you will need to download and install the Connectify program on your laptop. On the Internet you will find two versions of this program: free (Free, despite the fact that its capabilities are limited, it is completely suitable for home use) and paid (PRO).
  2. We downloaded, installed, and now we are launching the program. If you download a free program, which is most likely the case, then you will not be able to change the SSID in any way, therefore, in the window that opens, we skip this item. In the “Password” field, enter the password for your Wi-Fi.
  3. Then, in the “Internet to share” field, you will need to select a connection through which we can access the Internet. On the free version, don’t even try to share 3G/4G, it still won’t work.
  4. After that, go to the “Share Over” field. The Wi-Fi value should already be entered in it, and in “Sharing Mode” select WPA2 and click on the “Start Hotspot” button.
  5. Your laptop is now fully configured for distribution. We connect other devices and enjoy their work.

If you still have questions about how to set up Wi-Fi distribution from a laptop using the Connectify program, watch the video below.

Despite the fact that now the simplest wireless router can be bought for only about 1000 rubles, still not everyone can afford it. And some people simply don’t want to spend money on it. But there are emergency cases when you urgently need to organize a Wi-Fi network, but there is no router or access point for it. For example, you bought a modern Smart TV and want to use it to watch videos on YouTube. What should I do? The solution is simple - we will use the means at hand to distribute WiFi without a router. I will give several working examples, and you can decide which one is more convenient for you.

How to share the Internet from a laptop on Windows 10

In modern operating systems from Microsoft, which are installed on most computers in Russia, it is possible to organize a virtual access point and turn a laptop into a router. The only limitation is that this computer must be connected to the Internet either through a wired Ethernet adapter or through a 3G/4G modem. The fact is that using one adapter, the laptop will not be able to distribute the Internet via Wi-Fi and receive it. The second limitation has now practically disappeared. The fact is that the wireless adapter or its driver must also support this function. On modern supported computers, problems are very rare.

So, in order to use your laptop as a router and distribute the Internet in Windows 10, you need to enable the Wi-Fi adapter on it, and also make sure that it works and there are no problems with the installed driver. After this, there are two ways - activate the function manually or use the program. Consider both options.

Method 1: netsh wlan hostednetwork commands and ICS sharing

In order to independently configure a Windows virtual router and enable shared access to it using the built-in ICS mechanism, do the following.
Right-click on the "Start" button in the lower left corner of the screen. The following menu will appear:

Select the “Command Prompt” item in it or, if you are not working with Administrator rights, then the “Command Prompt (Administrator)” item. A black window will appear into which you must enter commands - the so-called “Windows console”. The first command is to configure the parameters of the wireless network that we will launch. Here's an example:

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode="allow" ssid="moi-wifi" key="wifipassword" keyUsage=persistent

This is what it looks like on the command line:

Let's take a closer look. Parameter SSID- this is the name of the Wi-Fi network that you are creating and will distribute. Parameter Key is the security key or, in other words, the password for connecting to this WiFi. Settings entered using this command are saved in the registry and will retain the entered values until you change them to others.

The second command is:

netsh wlan start hostednetwork

It starts the wireless network configured above.

In fact, this is how you force the computer’s wireless adapter to distribute WiFi without a router, that is, on its own. Unfortunately, so far you have only been able to make an access point from a laptop, which cannot distribute the Internet.

In order to now distribute the Internet on Windows 10, you need to make one more setting. Press the Win+R key combination and enter the open command in the line ncpa.cpl. Press the Enter button on the keyboard and a window will open for the network connections that are available in the operating system.

Please note that you must have two wireless connections while using only one network adapter. This is fine! Secondly, in my example this “Local Area Network Connection *2” is the Wi-Fi that the computer distributes. But what we need now is not that, but the connection through which your PC accesses the Internet. For me it is a Local Network. Right-click on this icon:

Note: If you are using a PPPoE connection to your provider, then you need to select a High-speed connection. If you are connected via L2TP or PPTP tunnel, then you need to select a VPN connection.

In the window that appears, open the “Access” tab:

Check the box "Allow other network users to use this computer's Internet connection." After this, the “Connect to your home network” list will appear below. Here you need to select the created wireless network, which I already mentioned above. That's it, click OK to apply the settings.

Well, that’s basically it, now the laptop distributes the Internet via WiFi and without a router, independently performing their functions.

Advice:
Every time you turn on your computer to start a virtual access point, you will have to enter this command:

To automate this process a little, you can create a text file on your desktop with the following content:

After that, save the file and rename it to change the extension from *.txt to *.bat. This will make the file executable. Now it needs to be placed in Autoload. This will force the laptop to distribute WiFi automatically as soon as Windows 10 boots up.

On previous versions of the OS - Windows 7 and Windows 8, everything is done exactly the same as on Windows 10. Here is a video instruction:

Possible problems: If, when you try to start a virtual access point in the command line, you receive the error “The hosted network could not be started. The group or resources are not in the required state to perform the required operation,” then first check whether the Wi-Fi adapter is turned on on the laptop. If it is definitely enabled, then run this command:

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow

After that, try starting the virtual router again. Everything should work!

Method 2. Programs for distributing the Internet from a laptop via WiFi

This is an easier way to distribute Wi-Fi, which does not require any “extra steps” at all. Typically, all you need to do is launch the application. In some cases, he needs to manually specify through which network adapter the laptop accesses the Internet. The most popular program for distributing WiFi is, of course, the utility Connectify Hotspot:

In my opinion, despite its popularity, this is not the best option. There are analogues that are simpler, more convenient and, most importantly, provide the same functions as Connectify Pro absolutely free.

One such example is the program mHotspot:

This is an excellent free program for distributing the Internet over a wireless network. There are only a few fields in the main application window. "Hotspot Name" is the name of the WiFi network or the so-called SSID. The "Password" field is the Wi-Fi password. In the "Share From" list, you must manually specify the network connection through which the PC accesses the Internet. We don’t touch anything else and press the “Start” button. Well, let’s enjoy the delights of wireless Internet!

In general, as I noted above, there is a sea of similar software, but personally, I liked the Chinese utility the most of all of them Ostoto Hotspot. It is distributed freely, there are no built-in advertisements yet, it works and is not buggy! What else is needed for happiness?!

This free program for distributing Wi-Fi from a laptop has the bare minimum of settings and works right out of the box. Even a schoolboy can figure it out. To change the SSID or password for the connection, simply click on the “Edit” icon and enter your parameters in the fields that appear. Don't forget to save your changes by clicking the "Save" button.

How to distribute the Internet from a phone or tablet

Many users, for various reasons, prefer mobile Internet access to cable, because it is always at hand - not only at home, but wherever you are. The main thing is to have reliable cellular reception. But again, if you need to connect another device, difficulties immediately arise. Fortunately, the developers of the Android and iOS operating systems for mobile devices have built in the ability to organize a Wi-Fi router via a phone or tablet. Let's look at how this is done in more detail.

How to set up an access point on Android

Click on the gear icon and open your smartphone Settings:

In the "Wireless Networks" section, find the "More" button and click it. In the next menu we find the item “Modem mode”:

And then you need to select the “Wi-FI access point” item. The following menu will appear:

Here you need to move the slider to the “On” position.
With this, you have already launched a virtual router, which allows you to distribute Wi-Fi on Android.
To see what the password is for connecting to this wireless network or to change it, click on the line “Setting up an access point”:

If necessary, here you can change the SSID, the type of encryption standard used, and the security key.
To disable the virtual router, simply move the switch to the "Off" position.

How to distribute Internet from iPhone

Fortunately, not only Android has such a function; Apple's iOS also allows you to turn on the hotspot on your iPhone and iPad with just a few swipes of your finger. This is done as follows. Open the settings of your iPhone and find the “Cellular” item:

Scroll down to “Modem Mode” and select it:

The following menu will appear:

Here you need to turn on the modem mode with the slider, after which your iPhone will start distributing the connected 3G/4G Internet via Wi-Fi. The password for connecting to this wireless network can be viewed and even changed in the “WiFi Password” field.
To turn off the wireless access point on iPhone and iPad, simply turn off tethering mode.

Many people want to make their laptop or PC a Wi-Fi access point to connect other devices to it. Using this article, you can set up your laptop on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7. Below you can download files describing how to set up and a video on how to set up for Windows 7.

We continue the series of lessons about wifi internet. In the first article of the series, we figured out how to set up wifi using a router. Today we will learn how to distribute the Internet via wifi, that is, we will try to do without this connecting link and connect two computers running on the Windows XP and Windows 7 operating systems.

How to distribute the Internet via wifi?

First, let's look at the diagram. If previously a router was used to access the Internet, now one of the computers will take over its function. That is, when using wifi Internet, one computer must be constantly on. The wifi distribution scheme will look like this:

1. A constantly turned on PC with a wifi module, connected via cable to the Internet and distributing a signal.

The key phrase is “always on”, because To use the Internet with a second computer, you need the first one to be constantly on - which is what our router actually did before.

2. Second computer or laptop with wifi...

At the request of visitors, I am posting this article...
Distributing the Internet via Wi-Fi is actually very simple. Almost exactly the same as distributing the Internet using Wi-Fi on a laptop. It can be distributed in several ways. Now let's look at them in more detail.

1 way to distribute Wi-Fi.

The simplest and most effective is to buy a router or router with Wi-Fi access point support. When purchasing, pay attention to this and the capabilities (in particular, speed). Everything is described in detail in the instructions for use. I won't write about the setup, because... There are now a great variety of brands and models, and entire websites are usually dedicated to customization. It’s better to contact your Internet provider for help (if you can’t figure out the instructions). They have such a service.
In short, I’ll just write that you buy a router, then connect an Internet cable to it, then connect it with a cable to the computer, and then you configure everything on the computer or directly in the router (depending...

You will need

Desktop computer or laptop connected to the Internet; - built-in or external wi-fi adapter; - Windows 7 or 8 operating system.

Instructions

First way. Go to the command line with administrator rights and enter the command netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid="MS Virtual WiFi" key="Pass for virtual wifi" keyUsage=persistent (no need to put quotation marks). Then go to Device Manager and check for a new adapter called "Microsoft Virtual WiFi miniport adapter".

Activate the new adapter. To do this, go to the “Control Panel”, from there - to the “Network and Sharing Center”. Find in it the newly created connection called Wireless Network Connection 2. Go to the command line again with administrator rights, type the command netsh wlan start hostednetwork (without quotes). After setting up your home network, your PC will be able to distribute...

The more widespread various mobile devices are, the more different smartphones and tablets we have, the more often the question arises: how can all this be connected via WiFi to your computer or friends’ laptop. The problem is instantly solved if you have a home router - all devices connect to it and are perfectly accessible to each other and can use the Internet. But what if you don’t have a router, but you really need to connect a tablet or smartphone? The solution is very simple - you just need to make the laptop distribute WiFi in the same way as the router does. Fortunately, the developers of Windows 7 and Windows 8 foresaw this development of events and built such functionality into their operating system in advance.

So, we have 2 possible options: using built-in Windows tools or third-party programs to create a virtual router on your computer.

We distribute WiFi using built-in Windows tools.

May be useful... wi-fi for others without a router.

I can't help it! I read an excellent article and I want to share it with you, friends.

I noticed this article on a friends blog and it was written by a woman! My friend Maya.

But somehow it seems to me that someone still helped. Definitely a husband!

Well, the point is not this, but the question of what Maya coped with.

I was wondering where to start with security or how to distribute wi-fi.

I think we'll start with a very interesting question.

Is it possible or not to distribute wi-fi (Internet) from your computer or laptop at home without a router?

I'll make you happy... it's possible!

You will only need to install the necessary program, and you will be able to distribute the Internet, for example, to a smartphone or to a neighbor, of course, if you are very kind and have impressive Internet speeds.

Otherwise you will suffer yourself, but we’ll talk about that at the end of the article.

On the Internet you can find all sorts of programs designed for distribution...

Today we’ll talk about how to distribute the Internet via Wi-Fi from a laptop or from a computer that has an appropriate wireless adapter. Why might this be needed? For example, you purchased a tablet or phone and would like to access the Internet from it at home without purchasing a router. In this case, you can distribute Wi-Fi from a laptop that is connected to the network either wired or wirelessly. Let's look at how to do this. At the same time, we’ll look at three ways to turn a laptop into a router. Methods for distributing Wi-Fi from a laptop are considered for Windows 7, Windows 8, they are also suitable for Windows 10. If you prefer non-standard ones, or do not like installing additional programs, you can immediately go to the method in which the implementation of Wi-Fi distribution will be organized using the Windows command line.

Imagine the situation: you come to visit and you need fast Internet on your smartphone or tablet, but the hosts only have a laptop connected to the Internet with a cable, but no router. No problem - you can organize wireless Internet distribution from this laptop in a couple of minutes.

To do this, you need: broadband wired Internet access, a computer or laptop with a Wi-Fi module, and the Windows 7 or Windows 8 operating system. Let's get started with the setup.

Open the Start menu, write “cmd” (without quotes) in the search bar, right-click on the found program and select “Run as administrator.”

In the command line that opens, write “netsh wlan show drivers” (without quotes) and press Enter. This command checks whether the Wi-Fi module on your computer is compatible with virtual Wi-Fi.

Then write “netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=name key=password” and press Enter. Here “name” is the name of the access point being created, it can be anything, for example...

The process of creating a WiFi network without a router is as follows:

1. Start – Control Panel – Network and Internet – Network and Sharing Center – Set up a new connection or network.

3. Enter a name and security key for your network. The more complex all this is, the more secure your network will be.

5. Now to connect to the network, users will have to enter the network name and password for it. As long as the computer distributing this network is working, the Internet will also work on the device that is connected to it.

Important! The process of creating such a network is only possible on Windows 7 and only on laptops that have WiFi receivers...

As you know, a router can be not only a device specially created for this purpose, but also the computer itself. This article will look at how to make wifi without a router by setting up a personal computer equipped with a Wi-Fi adapter, or just a laptop with built-in Wi-Fi.

The first setting method is more preferable

Software installation

The first way is to look at the Connectify program. The installation will take place on a computer running the Windows 7 operating system.

The first step is to download the Connectify utility itself, with which we will make a homemade router. You can download it from the official website http://www.connectify.me/

After installing the program, the Connectify program icon should appear in the system tray in the lower right corner. While the program is not configured, the icon will have a crossed out circle, which means that the access point has not yet been configured.

The circle icon in the tray means...

Hello, my dear friends! Today I will tell you how to quickly build a network in the airspace to which other devices that also have a Wi-Fi receiver can connect. Here you have a desktop computer. But let me remind you that, as a rule, they do not have a built-in WiFi adapter.

But you shouldn’t despair; just visit any computer store and purchase an additional device. They are inexpensive, take up little space and look like a regular flash drive (I wrote a review of popular models in this). My young network wizards, today in a simple way I will tell you how to make your computer distribute a wireless network via Wi-Fi.

I will tell you about the three main methods and start with the most convenient in my opinion - through the magic console. Next, we will consider the usual interface method and the software one. The most important thing is to check that the drivers for the transmitter are installed and that it works quite actively and normally.

NOTE! If the Internet distribution did not start, after magical manipulations, some kind of error appeared or something did not work out in the process. Just skip to the very last chapter in this article - where I discuss solutions to such problems. You can also describe them in the comments, and I will definitely help you.

Examination

Unfortunately, not all modules can simultaneously receive signals and distribute a Wi-Fi network. Some people are simply not able to do this, while others simply need to update the driver. Let's check whether your antenna can build a network in air currents. You need to launch the console as an administrator and enter a magic spell.

  1. Let's go to Start.
  2. Enter “CMD” in the search bar. Right click on the application and run as administrator.

netsh wlan show drivers

A window will appear with complete information about your network adapter. The line “Hosted Network Support” should have a positive answer. Otherwise, you need to look for updated software for your gizmo.

If nothing happens, then most likely the drivers are not installed. Just go to the manufacturer's website and download from there. Or through the device manager in the “Other devices” section, update the drivers from the Microsoft center.

Command line

This is black and ancient magic that allows you to do whatever you want with your computer. Today you will learn about a spell that can awaken the hidden network forces of Wi-Fi in your car. It doesn’t matter what kind of Windows you have, the method will help on all Microsoft operating systems: 7, 8, 8.1 and 10.

  1. We still launch the console and write the spell. Unfortunately, on the seven you cannot copy the command and will have to be entered manually. On ten, just copy from here.
  2. First, write a spell that allows the construction of a local network:

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow

  1. And now the main spell:

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=”HerenecessaryenterNameWIFI” key=”HerenecessaryenterpasswordfromWIFI” keyUsage=persistent

  1. Change fields ssid=”______”(WiFi name) and key=”_____” (password from her). Once everything is ready, press Enter:

  1. Hurray, we managed to launch the beast, but for now it’s just in a cage. Roughly speaking, there is a Wi-Fi network, but the winds of the Internet do not blow through it. Now let's correct this misunderstanding.
  2. Press Win+R.
  3. We write the command ncpa.cpl and activate the spell.

  1. So my network “site” appeared, and you will have your own. Now we just need to allow this network to use the Internet connected to this PC. My connection is via cable. There it is - the first connection. We go to properties and there we find the “Access” tab. You just need to allow all local users from this machine to use this Internet. I almost forgot - also indicate for which network access should be allowed, but by default everything should already be there (in the line "Connecting your home network" change the value if it is different).
  2. Again, go to the console and enter two commands one by one, after each press Enter to run:

netsh wlan stop hostednetwork

netsh wlan start hostednetwork

  1. The first spell activates the network, the second deactivates it. This is how you will launch it now. To change the password and network name, you need to use the full spell as at the beginning.

Now you can connect to an access point, which this computer serves as, and receive Internet on your phone, tablet, laptop or other PC with a Wi-Fi module. You just need to connect to this network and enter a password to gain access.

Via interface

This is a more rural method, since you will use prepared buttons from the operating system. At the same time, it is not a fact that the network will start, but this method has its advantages in terms of convenience and autonomy when starting the system.

Windows 7

How to distribute Wi-Fi from a computer to Windows 7 through the interface? On a seven, everything is a little more complicated than on a ten, but making a router out of a PC is quite possible. Go!

  1. Click on connection and select "Network and Sharing Center."

  1. Now we find the inscription: “Set up a new connection or network.”

  1. Scroll a little and find the item “Setting up a wireless computer-to-computer network.”

  1. Here I think you can guess for yourself what is where. Be sure to set the encryption type to WPA2. Check the box to save the settings and click "Further".

  1. Be sure to enable sharing at the very end so that the Internet in this local area is used for secondary, connected devices. We close the window.

Windows 10

If the console never fails, then problems may arise with this, especially for stationary PCs. In general, the manipulations are very simple and suitable for everyone.

  1. “Start” – “Settings” – “Network and Internet”.
  2. Find the section on the left side "Mobile hot spot"

  1. Change the password and grid name by clicking "Change". And turn it on with the slider at the very top. Below there will be a drop-down menu in which you select your Internet connection - do not forget to select yours: via cable, 3G/4G modem or connection to a router. To see which one you are using, just left-click on the connection in the lower right corner.

Video instruction

Using the program

To distribute the Internet to other devices over the air network, there are a huge variety of programs on the Internet. I can only mention a few that I used. Well, I didn’t really use it – I just tried how they work. I was able to easily launch the SSID using:

  • Virtual Router
  • Switch Virtual Router
  • Maryfi
  • Connectify

The program interface is very simple, and some do not even require installation and you just need to download it from the Internet and run it. The principle is the same - you enter your Wi-Fi network name, password for it and launch it.

There is simply no point in writing about this, since even a child can figure it out. All programs can be downloaded from official websites with the latest update. But you can look for other programs.

Problem solving

And so the most common problems are the full operation of the adapter. Sometimes drivers go wrong or the transmitter simply turns off. We need to go to "Device Manager". And look at the network adapters.

Sometimes the system intentionally hides some hardware, just click to turn on the display of invisible devices. If you notice an arrow next to the Wi-Fi transmitter, this means it is not activated. We just have to activate it.

If it doesn’t help, immediately update the drivers for each adapter with the name Wi-Fi. If that doesn’t work, you’ll have to look for firewood on the Internet on the manufacturer’s website. Look at the adapter and simply enter the company name into a search engine and it will give you the official website.

Try disabling your antivirus. If this doesn't help, let's tinker with the firewall. For this:

  1. Win+R
  2. Services.msc

  1. Click on "Services". On the right, the list will be displayed in alphabetical order. We just need to find "Windows Firewall" and go to properties.

  1. Make sure it starts automatically. If this is not so, correct it, and then click on the button "Run" and apply the configuration.

A few more methods and solutions:

  1. Update your Windows OS to the latest version.
  2. Restart your PC.
  3. Check that the Internet on the main computer is working properly and is turned on.
  4. Update the drivers not only for the adapter, but also for the built-in network card. And it’s better for the entire motherboard on the manufacturer’s website. To find out the model, just write the spell in the black screen of the magic console:
    1. Under « Product" and there will be a motherboard model. We simply enter this combination of numbers and letters into the search engine. We go to the website and download the latest update package.

You must understand that the adapter in both the PC and laptop is not intended for network distribution. For one-time launches this is quite possible, but for constant use it is not suitable. Still, I recommend purchasing a separate router. Yes, it will cost around 3000-4000 rubles. But it will perform its functions much better than a regular adapter.

If too many devices are connected (up to 8 by default in Windows OS), it may not be able to withstand the load and burn out, or it will simply work slowly. It’s even worse if it’s built-in, like a laptop, and you’ll have to buy an external module if it breaks. And most importantly, such adapters have a small coverage radius and often work in a small diameter.

Someone will try to connect through the wall and there will be constant disconnects, packet loss and Internet shutdowns. I have already reviewed the most popular router models - just read and choose the one you like. Well, if you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them in the comments.
